New Tattoo

I got a tattoo! I had it done at Dark Star Tattoo on March 30th, and now it's healed up enough to show. The eyes are those of Sharbat Gula, the 12-year-old 'Afghan Girl' refugee who appeared on the cover of National Geographic in June of 1985. This is a photograph that captured the plight of one girl, her youthful innocence hardened into a piercing stare of survivalism by the Soviet war in Afghanistan. The photo brought this truth from the hills of the Afghan-Pakistani border into the minds and hearts of the rest of the world. For me it symbolizes the true nature of the world that we are so often blinded to and the ever-present need to be mindful of our fellow human beings, wherever or whomever they may be. I will now carry this youthfully idealistic statement with me at all times, and I hope that one day, when I've grown old, it will remind me of how I once saw the world.
